Imagine Land

Amy, Alex and Daniel in

Imagine Land

Children love stories. It is how they start to learn the English language.

This book is a collection of stories with characters that are all famous – but so far only in our house. They are part of our family.

We had four children, and we told them many stories. Some of them we created based on our own ideas. Therefore, our imaginary family grew to include people like Chinkers Winkers, Harry Hare and Funny Bunny.

Now we have grand children, Amy, Alex and Daniel who are the intrepid explorers in this book.

Roley Poley

Amy was with her brothers, Alex and Daniel.

She saw a mole rolling down a hill.

He picked himself up and climbed back to the top.

Then he rolled all the way down again.

As he went down he shouted, ‘Roley Poley.’

Amy asked, ‘Why do you shout Roley Poley?’

‘Because I’m the World Roley Poley Champion.’

‘How do you know?’ asked Alex.

‘I roll down this hill the fastest,’ he said.

‘What is that?’ asked Daniel.

‘Twenty two seconds,’ he replied proudly.

‘I can beat that,’ said Daniel.

He quickly rolled down the hill.

‘Twenty seconds,’ he said, counting in his head.

‘I can beat that,’ said Alex, and rolled down the hill.

‘Eighteen seconds,’ said Alex, hoping he was right.

‘I can beat that,’ said Amy.

She rolled down the hill.

‘Sixteen seconds,’ she said, looking at her watch,

‘I’m the new World Champion.’

‘No you’re not,’ said Roley Poley, ‘I am.’

‘We have just beaten your time,’ said Alex.

‘Yes,’ said Daniel, ‘All of us beat your time.’

‘Ah!’ said Roley Poley, ‘But you are not moles.

This is the Moles’ World Championship.

 Only moles can enter.’

At that moment, Amy’s friend, Moley Poley arrived.

‘Hello Moley,’ said Amy, ‘Is this your brother?’

‘Yes,’ said Moley, ‘He’s a World Champion.’

‘So he says, but have you rolled down this hill?’

‘Oh yes,’ said Moley, ‘I do it in fourteen seconds.’

‘So, you must be the World Champion’, said Alex.

‘Yes, but only for girl moles,

Roley Poley is the World Champion for boy moles.’

‘How do you know?’ Amy asked.

‘Because we invented the World Championship,

We are the only two who enter.’

‘No other moles know about it.’

‘It’s good to be a World Champion’, Roley smiled.

‘It makes you feel important.’
