For a new romance
writer, as with all
writers, gaining access to the elitist world of publishing (particularly for new
writers) can be very difficult and a constant stream of rejection letters is
disillusioning. If you have already read our manuscript guidelines you will be
aware of this. But don’t give up, the good news is that Zeus can now help you
fulfil
your desire to be published.
The difference
with Aphrodite is that
the line will be Romance only! This will allow us to create a new-look
imprint
that will appeal to the most discerning romance reader. These books will
be between 50,000 and 60,000 words
(unlike Zeus and Poseidon which have various
word counts). These books will be specifically marketed and
publicised.
Aphrodite with also be subsidy published but
the pricing will be specialised.
Guidelines for Aphrodite:
Authors need
to concentrate on the conflict between the female MC (main
character) and the male MC (hero).
If there is no conflict or passion there is no
story.
·
Create a hero your readers will fall in love with.
·
Dialogue should be used often and drive the story forward.
It should sound believable
·
Read other romance books to understand the genre.
·
Read books about writing or join a writers’ group.
·
Learn about punctuation and spelling (you’d be amazed
how many writers forget about the fundamentals).
·
Word Count between 50,000 and 60,000 words.
·
Manuscript supplied in Word format 12pt Times Roman (does
not need to be double spaced as we edit via computer).
Initial submission as with other Zeus and Poseidon
submissions, eg. Query, Synopsis and sample chapters.
·
Make sure your manuscript is polished. Never send a first
draft.

A typical first print
run is enough for review and to satisfy early demand, allowing us the option to
alter the back cover
on future print runs to include any favourable review
comments the book might gain. Such endorsements on the back
of a book can help
increase sales. Further print runs are at full cost to the publisher who also
benefits from the sale of
the book and therefore guarantees to keep the book in
print for the contract period.
We believe our costs
are very competitive for the level of service we offer and our means of
apportioning proceeds
are fair and realistic to both the author and to us: you
make a once-only payment to publish your book, and we have a financial incentive
to continue selling it. We fail to see the merit of some other arrangements
whereby the author is
offered unrealistically high percentage returns on sales
which then provide the company with little or no incentive to promote and sell
the book or, indeed, where sales are achieved and the author then has to pay
again to have the
book reprinted!
Author satisfaction is
of the greatest concern to us and we are sure you will be proud that you made
the decision to publish your book with Zeus Publications.
